Krk Island

Croatia’s islands are my favorite places for a summer vacation. My wife and I have visited Lošinj, Pag and Pašman before and this year it was time for Krk. We went to the largest town on the island which bears the same name – Krk.

The thing that delighted me the most are narrow streets which, surprisingly, aren’t as packed with tourists as in some other Croatian coastal towns.

The largest square in the city is located near the remains of the castle and the cathedral.

Hidden gems are everywhere. Shops respect the old architecture and don’t stand out too much.

The whole feeling of walking through an old town is always there. And it’s very inspirational for anyone who likes to photograph.

The sea is probably the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, extremely clean with an emerald color.

The highlight of a whole trip for me was when we found this lonely rocky place where you can easily enter the water. And the only person we’ve met there is a man who swims to and from there every morning.

As for the beaches, there’s a bunch of different ones, mostly a mix of concrete and rock. There’s also a small sandy patch at the central beach which attracts parents with small kids.

We drank our coffee at Captain Nemo beach bar which has a really fabulous location right next to the sea.

Krk  has built an amazing new school which fits in with the old city perfectly. Kudos to the architect!

Konoba Galija restaurant – we ate amazing surlice with goulash and black risotto there. There’s also a beautiful lawn with a few turtles running around.
